Obi EMELONYE is a passionate, self-taught writer, director and producer with a multi-disciplinary approach to filmmaking. His relentless creative drive and sense of cinematic style has marked him out as a global pioneer for a bold new cinematic identity for Africa.

Obi Emelonye, a former professional footballer and law professional graduated from The University of Nigeria Nsukka with BA (Hons) Theatre Arts. (1990) He went on to study for an LLB Law degree from the University of Wolverhampton. (1998) He completed a Post Graduate Degree in Legal Practice with Distinction from the London Metropolitan University (2002) and practiced Law for a few years before focusing on his first love: films.

Mr Emelonye attracted international attention with the 2011 release of his seminal film THE MIRROR BOY. The Mirror Boy premiered at the iconic Empire cinema Leicester Square in Feb 2011; a first for African cinema. The hugely successful, award winning family adventure film has set a new standard in African international cinema, breaking box-office records and amassing plaudits at festivals and awards to become the most awarded film in Nigerian cinema history.

Obi's latest film, the high octane LAST FLIGHT TO ABUJA has pushed the envelope further with unrivalled visual realism. It was in the top 2 of West African cinema charts for four weeks after its release in August and after a 10-week cinema run, it is officially the highest grossing Nigerian cinema film of 2012.

Obi Emelonye is now firmly established as one of the new generation of Nigeria filmmakers taking the magic of Nollywood to the world; with what he calls 'a quintessential African cinematic voice'. It is indeed a voice that is now louder than ever; resonating on global media platforms like CNN and BBC with a new-found confidence that cannot be ignored.
